Top 5 Reasons I’ve lost my humor

5) My delivery is so deadpan, intended jest is taken as implying just.

4) I expect the setup to be common knowledge, but it isn’t so jokes are viewed as offensive.

3) When the funny moment arrives I can’t think fast enough to get my head out of my straightforward a$$ and respond.

2) I am so comfortable making fun of myself that others can’t decipher where the line between laughing at me versus with me is.

1) My distinction between humor and political correctness is too fuzzy.

For Thanksgiving 2015 I dressed my family up in pilgrim costumes as a reminder of my Congregational church roots and an embarrassing annual act that brought about humility. My husband was mortified by my remembrance. He read Howard Zinn's, The People's History of the United States and knew how the pilgrims intentionally gave the Indians small pox. What I thought would bring about a good laugh for others made him uncomfortable. Knowledge is power, and life is filled with confusing dichotomies of right and wrong all in the same package. I'm just glad he's the type of employee who is willing to accept my silliness at its innocent and imperfect face value.
